Our Mission

Teamed with the Mechanical Contractor our engineers provided mechanical and plumbing engineering services for the new 39,000 square foot two story medical office building that was to be connected to the existing medical hospital.

How We Achieved It

The building’s boiler room contains all the equipment required for the building’s heating and water heating systems. Two hot water boilers were selected based on building heat loss and equipment efficiencies. A primary/secondary pump scheme was utilized to circulate heating water to the building three custom roof mounted air handling units and to the individual fan terminal variable air volume boxes.

With energy conservation in mind, the custom roof mounted HVAC units included 100% economizer control, which allows for additional outside air to be introduced into the building to provide free cooling when outdoor conditions allowed. The units were also specified with exhaust fans which allow greater control of building pressurization when in the economizer mode.

Direct digital controls were installed to allow for maximum systems efficiency, while allowing the owner the ability to monitor and adjust system set points as deemed necessary. After reviewing the utilities for the building with the City of Newton, our engineers determined a domestic water booster pump would be required to maintain adequate water pressure on the upper floor of the building. The water distribution
system was designed with water conservation in mind. All water closets and urinals utilize low flow fixtures and comply with the latest Americans with Disabilities Act.
